A trip to Holland would not be complete without a visit to the Van Gogh Museum. One of Amsterdam’s most popular tourist attractions, this museum is a can’t-miss tourist attraction. Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890) was one of the most famous Dutch artists and this museum is dedicated to his life’s work.
In the museum you will find the most popular and recognizable Van Gogh paintings including:
* Sunflowers, 1889
* Almond Blossom, 1890
* The Cottage, 1885
* Self-Portrait with Straw Hat, 1887
* The Bedroom, 1888
* Wheatfield Under Thunderclouds, 1890
Visitors will get to see multiple self-portraits of Van Gogh , there are so many because the artist lacked the money to pay for models. Also Van Gogh created many paintings of animals, peasant life in France (where he lived for a large part of his life) and portraits of his friends, family and acquaintances.

What many people do not know is that Van Gogh was a talented sketch artist who drew as a means of practicing his painting techniques. The museum has many of the artist’s drawings on display along with his personal letters to his brother Theo and artist friends Paul Gauguin and Emile Bernard. Be sure to check the museum’s website before your visit to see what new events, activities and exhibits will be on display while you’re there.
Before you’re on to your next adventure, take some time to rest and nourish yourself with some of the delicious food available at the museum’s café Le Tambourin. You’ll find a big selection of hot and cold dishes like salads, lasagna, quiche, vegetarian dishes and lots of yummy cakes and pastries.
